General Information
"Tanner" Registered Thoroughbred Colt Y20 Born Dark Bay 16.0hh |
Once you meet Thanatos, there's a brief moment where he gives you a "don't mess with me" kind of vibe. In reality, Tanner is scared of anything and everything the light touches. When he's scared and you are trying to lead him to or from the paddock, there is no doubt that he will try to jump into your lap. There's also a solid chance you could wear him like a backpack unintentionally. Tanner is not a bad horse by any means, but something isn't quite wired right in his brain and that's what makes him special. He's a giant softie once you get to know him, but god forbid his halter was moved 2 inches to the right or his hay isn't placed in the correct corner of his stall. There have been moments where he's outright refused to go in his stall because something was amiss. He's easy to get along with, especially if you come with just about any kind of food. If he's not with a buddy, Tanner can get quite frazzled and will refuse to do any more work. His rides and works are kept short because his attention span and prefers working in company. Tanner will also rear if he doesn't wants to do something. He never goes straight up or back, but just high enough to get his point across. A trick to keep him from going up is to change directions or circle him away from the stimulus. One thing Tanner loves is going on hacks. He loves the quiet serenity of the trails and we often take him out multiple times a week, especially after a hard workout or race; it seems to reset his brain and he comes out better than the week before.

Racing InformationThe paddock does stress him out a little bit, but once he recognizes his jockey coming towards him in their familiar silks, Tanner is on race mode. He's eerily quiet leading up to the gates, but it's just the calm before the storm. Thanatos does not leave the barn without his ear plugs, and only when he's about to load into the gates are they taken out. It was surprising to find out that he runs better without blinkers and much prefers a soft fleece shadow roll. Powerful haunches propel him straight out of the gates and into the playing field where he'll often settle snugly in the middle of the field. He doesn't mind the shuffling and bumping of horses, to him it's weirdly comforting. Because he's a sprinter, Tanner doesn't tend to stay in the middle for too long before making his way out of any possible trouble he could find himself in. Despite his quirkiness, he's extremely talented and with his jockey's help, can always get himself out of a sticky situation. Tanner is as quick as a whip to get moving as soon as they hit the stretch, having an absolute blast passing by the opponents.
