General Information
"Waldo" Registered Thoroughbred Colt Y20 Born Bay 17hh |
The Wanderer earned his name when he turned one as our staff often used the phrase "Where's Waldo?" quite frequently. To be blunt, Waldo is the master of hide and seek. Not only has he jumped out of his paddock more times than we can count, but he's notorious for taking his riders on hidden detours around the property with no brakes. It doesn't help that he's as dumb as a doorknob and is spookier than all hell, which makes it extra interesting to work with him. When you're that much of a dunce, it's no surprise to the staff when Waldo comes back from whatever he's been doing with various small bumps and cuts. While nothing is thankfully major, Waldo is seriously the most accident prone horse on the farm and could probably be bubble wrapped one day if he wasn't so athletic. To make life difficult, he is also the absolute worst at being brought in from turnout, and there is only one way you'll be able to tempt him to come inside from turnout - beer. No, we're not kidding! His groom is the only one who is allowed to bring him inside but she must offer him a tall can of beer in exchange for his "freedom". Waldo is weird that way, and can also be bribed with candy canes and plain yogurt. Please no hand feeding though, Waldo is a shark and will eat your fingers. Waldo is very much a horse who chooses to only hang out with certain people, but if you've been one of the chosen ones then you'll definitely see the side of him that turns into a lap dog.

Racing InformationIn The Wanderer fashion, it took a bit for this colt to learn what a straight line was. Surprisingly, gating was no issue for him but he does tend to rest his rump against the back bumpers. For some reason he seems to think it gives him an extra push when he goes out into the scary, open world! He thought the rail would eat him (and he still does), so Waldo goes best with some head distraction and an outside running position...or just very far away from the rail. He will not hesitate to take any position in the race and truthfully, he seems to enjoy it. There's not a distinct pattern with his running style; as long as his jockey points him into an open gap, Waldo will take that spot and run with it.
